Kielder Stages

Two Ludlow Castle club members trekked North for the Kielder Stages at the weekend and faired well in the results.

Robert Gough paired again with usual co-driver Paul Morris in their Ford Escort Mk 2 finished 12th overall, 1st Historic and 2nd Silver Star.

Using the event as familiarisation for the RAC in November, the crew reported no issues all day besides struggling with tyre wear for the duration of the event and found the stages very loose due to the dry weather.

Lucy Wilding navigating for Ashley Francis-Adams in his Nissan Micra finished a creditable 35th overall, 1st in Class gaining maximum championship points. A fairly straightforward day was reported with no return of the mechanical gremlins that had hampered them on earlier championship rounds.

They did encounter some difficult driving conditions with the stages being very loose and marbley which caught out most crews at some point during the day. The crew reported a moment three quarters of the way through SS2 getting caught out on a tight 4R narrowly avoiding going completely into one of the notorious Kielder ditches, spinning them at 70 mph, bending the steering. All credit was given to Ashley for ensuring they remained on the road and got away without major incident.
